MTA-PE Networked Research Group on Regional Innovation and Development Studies

The main goal of the research group is to analyse the Hungarian, more precisely the West- and East-Transdanubian regional economic development and competitiveness. It assesses the firm- and institutional-level innovation activity and the relationship between academic research and regional competitiveness. It analyses the innovation activity of small and medium-size enterprises in innovation collaborations and also in export incentive innovation processes.

From a regional innovation perspective, the importance of universities, their knowledge-bases and their Centres of Excellence has risen significantly. Related to this topic, the research team analyses the relationship between universities and companies, the market value of universities’ research results. At the latter its main focus is on spin-off firms.

Department of Finance

Research topics of Financing Social Insurance Scientific Workshop of the Department of Finance: Macro- and microfinance of Health Insurance System, Financing of pension systems. Aims are on one hand to obtain useful knowledge for the reform of Hungarian Health Insurance System, on the other hand to analyze sustainability of pension systems assuming different scenarios.

Department of Accountancy and Controlling

The Department of Accountancy and Controlling focuses on researches in the analysis of the theoretical and practical relationships of the cash flow statement, analysis and control of the efficiency of support, international accountancy, the role of the controller in the practice of Hungarian companies, intellectual capital in the civil sectors, quality control and organisational performance.

Department of Tourism

The complex research areas of the Department of Tourism include the various aspects of sustainable tourism development with special focus on ecotourism, rural tourism and destination management. This is alongside product development where the research focuses on the types and outcomes of innovations in hotels and the utilisation of religious values for tourism purposes.

Department of Business Economics

The research activities at the Department of Business Economics are he following: the health status of Hungary and the role of prevention in cost decrease; the effect of development resources on the business processes at small and medium enterprises; ethnical marketing; pedagogical methods in inter-institutional on-line courses; the connection between the customers’ satisfaction/dissatisfaction and loyalty in the commercial bank sector; in-game advertising; sport marketing; advertisement efficiency; market-orientation of non-profit institutions.

Department of Economics

The Department of Economics is proud of its two research groups, the Applied Economics Research Group and the Macroeconomic and Macro-financial Research Group. The former focuses on various topics of Industrial Organization, particularly on two new fields of economics: economics of information and economics of regulation and at the same time it studies the structures of markets and industries as well as the behaviour of market players. The Macroeconomic and Macro-financial Research Group works in tandem with 14 other European, American and South African universities and research institutes, and conducts basic research to lay the theoretical foundations for the structural and regulatory reform of the European financial system.

Department of International Economics

The primary research fields of the Department of International Economics are: economic growth in the European Union; economics of structural reforms; EU Common Agricultural Policy; international market of agricultural products (trends, forecasting… etc.); the analysis of certain target markets and international trade liberalisation.

Department of Supply Chain Management

The Department of Supply Chain Management carries out research and conducts training programs in all areas of supply chain management. Recently, the focus of these activities has been supply chain coordination, procurement, process improvement (including lean initiatives) and maintenance.

Department of Quantitative Methods

The core activity of the Department of Quantitative Methods is the methodological support of economic research at the Faculty. Main research areas: ranking of higher education institutions, enrolment statistics, project planning methodology, regional studies, and green energy.

Department of Management

The main research field of the Department of Management includes the investigation of national and organizational culture, the examination of the Hungarian and other countries’ organizational knowledge management practice and their employees’ knowledge sharing. Furthermore the project success of organization is also investigated at the Department.
