International Week 2013 – If you missed it…

international_week_2013_9The 5th International Week was held between 7-10 October 2013 with the aim to create a real international atmosphere at the Faculty. The week was a busy week with presentations and free time programmes for students, faculty, and anyone interested. The core of the programme was a series of presentations on various topics related to international experiences, opportunities, and to current issues in international business and economics. The International Week also offered activities where Hungarian and international students could meet and socialize. Besides, this year the Faculty introduced a game, and offered price for students attending the most programmes. The winner of the game won a one-day shadow management programme with Mr. Ádám Szentkirályi, Vice-CEO of AVEX Zrt.
Let’s see how the week went.
On Monday Professor Péter Mihályi’s presentation opened the International Week with introducing an interesting topic and offering useful tips and hints on how to publish in an international journal. The afternoon offered a colourful insight into cultures and abroad experiences; the audience could get to know better Germany, Italy, Transylvania, Latvia and Nigeria through the words of our Hungarian and international students spiced with lots of beautiful photos. On Tuesday the day started with the lecture of an honoured guest from the Netherlands, Professor Dirk-Jan Kamann held a lecture on the trends in marketing. The second half of the day provided valuable information for those who were interested in spending some months abroad studying or doing an internship; Mr. Károly Kopasz introduced scholarship opportunities. Later Professor Candy Fresacher brought Brasil to Veszprém for the evening, with her lively presentation on this far away country within the frame of the World Travellers’ Club. Even the night was dedicated to the international atmosphere! On Tuesday night an international party awaited the students in Club DC. On Wednesday Ms. Viktória Sziller held a discussion on working outside of Hungary, which was followed by an interactive intercultural training held by Ms. Janka Huják. The same day the Global Village evening brought the flavours of nations to the Faculty, where students could taste the national dishes of Spain, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Latvia and Kosovo. The closing day of the International Week was also rich in programmes. In the morning Ms. Vedrana Knežević and Mr. Mišel Jakšić gave presentations on the EU accession of Croatia and on municipal projects in Croatia. In the afternoon German Henao and Gábor Sándor from AIESEC lead discussions on the challenges of working in an international team and on intercultural differences.
The 5th International Week offered a palette of colourful programmes all organised around the topic of internationalisation. If you missed it this year, make sure you will not miss it next autumn!

September is the time of the International Week! Fourth time has the Faculty of Business and Economics organised the International Week which is one of the semester opening events. During this week students participate in many professional and entertaining programs.

The two main pillars of the professional programs this year were the “Challenges and Promises in International Business” conference and the special lectures that were held within regular classes. The main topic of the conference presented best practices in intercultural communication, finance, strategy, logistics and network design.

Presenting lecturers were many well-known professors, such as Alt Monika Anetta (Universitatea Babes – Bolyai, Cluj-Napoca), Vincenzo Vespri (Universtà degly Studi di Firenze), Taha Bahadir Sarac (Nidge University) and of course our regular visiting lecturers: Candy Fresacher from Austria, Hans-Christian Pfohl from Germany and Nicholas Chandler from the UK. The Faculty’s host presenters were Dr. Lajos Szabó, Dr. Gyula Vastag and Dr. Alan Clarke.

The International Week offered colourful programmes to bring closer international topics. Students could take part in intercultural communication training by AIESEC, take an adventurous ERASMUS journey in Poland with Iván Varga, taste the flavours of a Summer School in Ankara with BEST and receive interesting information about Human Rights through a non-formal education game presented by Márk Szalma. Of course the traditional World Travellers’ Club took part as well. This time Csilla Zelkó guided the audience to the world of Ethiopia.

The International Party – the new program this year – was organised on Tuesday night with the co-operation of DC club where an international themed party awaited the students.

As a closing of this eventful week, on Saturday our international students offered samples of their own national food for the citizens of Veszprém in the downtown.
