The prestigious international event, the , will take place on May 21–22, 2026, in Budapest at the buildings of Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). This two-day, free scientific conference is jointly organized by HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network and one of Asia’s most prestigious and innovative technical universities, Nanyang Technological University, with the distinguished partnership of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

Bringing together some of the world’s leading experts, the event focuses on the scientific, industrial, and societal aspects of artificial intelligence. The aim of this prestigious symposium is to foster scientific dialogue and strengthen interinstitutional and international collaborations by bringing together globally recognized researchers and institutions in the field of artificial intelligence on a single platform. A key objective is to provide Hungarian researchers, young talents, university communities, developers, and innovative companies in Budapest with direct access to the international forefront of AI.

The 25th ECKM 2024 was hosted by the Pannon Egyetem – University of Pannonia, Pannon Egyetem GTK – University of Pannonia FBE on 5-6 September 2024.

The ECKM is a highly respected academic conference that has been held annually for 25 years, making it one of the longest-standing conferences in its field. ECKM provides an important platform for academics, researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders from around the world to exchange ideas, present research, and discuss developments in knowledge management. The conference seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice by encouraging the exchange of ideas between academics and practitioners. It also aims to promote interdisciplinary collaboration by bringing together experts from various fields such as business, information technology, education, and public administration.

The Conference Chair was Prof. Dr. Nóra Obermayer, and Program Chair was Prof. Dr. Andrea Bencsik, both are members of the ECKM conference organising committee, who have been working for years to make Veszprém the venue of the conference. The members of the local organising committee – Dr. Beáta Fehérvölgyi, Prof. Tibor Csizmadia and Barbara Nánási – and the students tried to create an inspiring atmosphere where knowledge sharing, innovation and networking were at the forefront.

The opening keynote presentation is given by Stephanie Barnes, Entelechy, Berlin, Germany, on the topic of Radical KM: Helping the Humans in an AI World. The second day of the conference will open with an address by Cindy Hubert, APQC, USA, who will talk about Knowledge Transfer, Exchange and Creation Among Experts with Different Backgrounds.

With an initial submission of 251 abstracts, after the double blind, peer review process there are 117 Academic research papers, 8 PhD research papers, 2 Masters Research papers 2 Non Academic papers and 3 work-in-progress papers published in these Conference Proceedings. These papers represent research from Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, INDIA, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Perú, Poland, Portugal, România, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UK, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, USA, and Vietnam.

Next year’s ECKM 2025 conference will take place in Lahti, Finland, hosted by Lahti University of Technology (LUT).

ABSL (Association of Business Service Leaders) Hungary organised a Business Breakfast, a key event for leaders in the Business Services Sector to explore the latest trends, challenges, and successes in the industry on 13 September 2024. This event featured a panel discussion on Enhancing Shared Services in Hungary Through Upskilling, Talent Transformation, and Automation. Industry experts could share insights on crucial topics like upskilling the workforce, embracing automation, and adopting innovative business strategies to deliver higher value to clients. This session aimed to gather insights from industry leaders, share best practices, and discuss the future of shared services in Hungary. The invited panelists were Lalit Karwa, Prof. Dr. Nora Obermayer, Valeria Gedeon, Istvan Lenk. The moderator was Edit Bencsik.

This was an excellent opportunity to gain valuable knowledge, exchange ideas with peers, and discuss the future of the shared services sector. Moreover, Nóra Obermayer could share the results of the researches of DKM Research Group in the topic of Upskilling the Workforce: Discuss the importance of upskilling and how companies are addressing skill gaps in Hungary.

On 1 March 2024, the Industry 4.0 management postgraduate specialisation program was launched. The program, which provides a management approach to digital transformation, has been developed using the research experience of the DKM (Digitalisation & Knowledge Management) research group on Industry 4.0.

The research project “Social aspects of digital intelligence” is carried out in the framework of the National Laboratory for Social Innovation at the University of Pannonia and aims to develop a unique digital intelligence evaluation system in a representative survey.

Dr. Nóra Obermayer, professor presented the social survey, which is in the planning and implementation phase, in the afternoon program of Civil Radio 117 minutes.

Data, information, systems and platforms – organisations and individuals alike are swimming in a sea of accumulated and relatively easily accessible knowledge. We have to face the fact that technological advances, digitalisation and Industry 5.0 are generating challenges to which not only business but also societies have to respond. It is a big task to adapt knowledge management tools to societal units, while at the same time providing education and awareness in a society made up of small local communities. Veszprém, as the European Capital of Culture 2023, is using culture and community-building tools to seek answers to major societal challenges, while the University of Pannonia is using science and education to explore their business and societal impacts. Under the theme of Organizational and Social Management of Societal Challenges, we welcome researchers, students, entrepreneurs and all those who can contribute to the knowledge of this topic to participate in ECKM 2024, which will be held at the University of Pannonia in Veszprém, Hungary.

The National Laboratory for Social Innovation (TINLAB) aims to develop a national framework for the development of social innovation. It will define social innovation and operate thematic forums to enable academic, civil, public and business actors to work together on new research and innovation programmes.
