Love Letters performed by the Confuse-A-Cat Ltd. English Language Theater Program

“I feel most alive when I’m writing things down. I like the pictures more than the words. I love writing you. You most of all. To write a boy?! I enclose a picture instead. I feel like a true lover when I am writing you. You could start telephoning me. You can’t hang up on letters. You can tear them up, though. You can tear me up and throw me out or keep me and read me today, tomorrow, any time you want until you die.

This play is not a drippy love story. We see a lifelong “relationship” forming with situations that are familiar to us all: the feeling of success and loneliness, missed opportunities, and in general the search for something that makes our lives complete.

The show won Best Play, Best Direction and Best Actress Awards at the 3rd National English Language Drama Festival in Veszprém in 2011. Mr. Pál Óberfrank, Head of the jury and director of Petőfi Theater in Veszprém officially invited the show to be performed again in February 2012. Played with full house at the University of Debrecen four times and at Central European University, Budapest.

Duration: 90 min.

Time: Monday, February 6, 2012, 17.00

Venue: Latinovits-Bujtor Studio Theater Veszprém, Iskola u. 1.   Tickets are available in advance for HUF 600/person in the ticket offices of the Petofi Theater. 8200 Veszprém, Óvári Ferenc utca 2. Tel./fax: 88/422-440

Did you know…? I.

did_you_know_erzsebet_penzesDid you know…..
….. that Erzsébet Pénzes is a mayor?

Yes, it is true. The senior lecturer of the Department of Tourism has been living in Hidegkút for 10 years now, and has been the mayor for a year. She has always been an active member of the community, organising events and working together on projects, and finally in 2010 the villagers themselves encouraged her to try and stand for election. After her successful campaign, she finds that she enjoys her new tasks, despite  having much less free time. It gives her a lot of energy when she can see the result of her efforts. Of course the new position involves huge responsibility and big challenges. She has already learned many things and, she added with a smile, is on a good way to become a financial- and legal expert!

Doctoral Scholarship in Public Economics in Germany

max_planck_sholarship2

The Department of Public Economics at the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance regularly invites applications for scholarships for doctoral students. The Institute grants these scholarships to excellent students. The successful applicants are expected to pursue their research at the Max Planck Institute and to participate in the Munich Graduate School of Economics (MGSE) of the Department of Economics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU), Munich.

Ph.D. students who already acquired skills in a graduate programme, or passed parts of a Ph.D. programme at other departments or institutes may apply at any time.

New entrants into the Ph.D. programme have to apply before April 15 2012 for the academic year that starts in October of the same year.

The graduate programme is structured as a three-year programme. The scholarships provided by Max Planck Institute usually cover the full time period of the programme, contingent on successful completion of the exams in the first year.

In the first year, the programme provides its young academics with formal course-based training in the field of economics and econometrics. Students acquire a solid background needed for the participants to complete their doctoral thesis. All courses are taught in English.

In the second and third year, doctoral students focus on their respective research projects and write their thesis. The Institute provides an adequate research environment, office facilities and financial resources for conducting this research. Young academics benefit from being part of a team that includes more senior researchers who also advise Ph.D. students in their research efforts. Doctoral students regularly present their research progress within seminars and discuss their results with more senior scholars at the Institute.

During the programme, Ph.D. students are part of an international team of researchers at the Institute. For the exchange and discussion of scientific ideas, the Institute strongly supports the participation in national and international conferences, symposia, and seminars. The Department also regularly hosts a considerable number of international scholars who contribute to the intellectually inspiring atmosphere and organizes several focussed research conferences every year.
